Tae kwon do – 6th Kup – Green Belt Grading

A while back I started learning Tae Kwon Do, which is a martial arts which originated in Korea. Tae Kwon Do means Foot, Fist and way. It is well known for its dynamic kicks. The organisation I belong to is the TAGB which the largest martial arts organisation in Europe.

As I am doing my 6th Kup Grading I have wrote a quick guide for what is needed for the green belt grading.

Tagb Green belt

Line Work

The line work is based on Won Hyo Pattern for example the first three move Won Hyo, Hooking Block.

Pattern – Won Hyo and Examiner/ Choice Pattern

Won Hyo is a 28 movement pattern it is named after the monk wonhyo who introduced buddhism to the Silla Dynasty in the year 686 AD

Three step sparing 8 – 10

No 8
Defence Right leg L stance middle knifehand block
Counter attack Slide back at 45 forearm guarding block in an L stance. Then execute right sidekick then do knife hand strike in the back of the neck.
No 9
Defence Right leg L stance palm pushing block
Counter attack Slide back at 45 knife hand guarding block. Then execute a turning kick to the mid section. Place your kicking foot behind the opponent leading leg. Then a knife hand strike to the back of the neck.
No 10
Defence Right leg L stance middle knife hand block
Counter attack Slide back at 45 knife hand guarding block. Then execute a reverse side kick land in a walking stance with a knife hand strike to the chin.

Semi Free Sparring

Attacking students start in L stance, guarding block. Defending students start in parallel stance.

Green Belt Green signifies the plant’s growth as skills begin to develop.
3 Step Semi-Free Sparring This form of sparring is designed as a step forward from basic 3 step sparring. It involves three consecutive attacks which can be hand or feet and three blocks or evasions, plus a counter attack.
